(More customer reviews)you know, i immediately thought of the us involvement in ww1 and ww2 - if we'd lost, we would be speaking german now, if alive. the revolutionary war and the war of 1812 were against the english. we'd had the french - indian wars, but, nobody took them too seriously. there was the mexican american war that was started by us and president polk after, as representative abraham lincoln claimed, our settlers were attacked by mexican soldiers because they were on mexican territory. then, there were the wars with the native americans. freedom fighter or terrorist, we mistreated them and either purchased or stole nearly all of their land - colonialization. then, the spanish american war was really no threat to americans but it was an example of colonial empirialism. the cold war was one of containment - as were vietnam and korea. we were smart enough to use our intelligence services in colonizing south america with just a few exceptions. afghanistan and eventually pakistan are probably wars of necessity rather than wars of colonization - of course, if we'd always done the right thing, those folks wouldn't have had to resort to violence - the voice of the oppressed. the war in iraq was elective for god knows why - oil? revenge for trying to kill W's dad? to provide protection for saudi arabia and to pack in iran? stabilizing influence? well, i could go on forever. our politicians have used our military for heroic purposes as well as colonial empirialism. i'm proud of our military, more so than i am our politicians.
